The effect of oxidized cellulose use on postoperative hypocalcemia development in thyroid surgery

BACKGROUND
 Hypocalcemia is a frequent complication in patients after thyroid surgery. Especially permanent hypocalcemia the most common and it can cause significant morbidity. Also postoperative haemorhage uncommon life-threatening of In this study we compare calcium metabolism complications between oxidized regenerated cellulose gauze (OC) + conventional haemostasis versus surgery.
 METHODS
 Two hundred eighty eight were divided to two groups: Group 1(144 patients) haemostasis, group 2 (144 Oxidized haemeostasis. Preoperative Ca levels, operation time, hospital stay, (bleeding, recurrent laringeal nerve injury, hypocalcemia) evaluated.
 RESULTS
 There was no difference groups sex, preoperative bleeding, injury. The avarage age significantly higher 1 compared 2( 52,4 years vs 49,6 years, p< 0,05). time significanly lower 1(77,2 min.vs 87,2 min., 
 CONCLUSION
 Compared with methods, think that addition Cellulose for does not create positive- negative matebolism make rates, while shortening time.
